 APD Wins PR Awards | |
| The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) won two awards during the Capital Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association’s Image Awards on April 21 in Tallahassee. |

 Torch Run | |
| Lights, sirens, and lots of action occurred on April 5 in Tallahassee. The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run brought dozens of police motorcycles escorting hundreds of runners to the Capitol Courtyard. |

 SportsAbility is Fun! | |
| SportsAbility is all about enjoying the athletics and great outdoors using your abilities. It’s the main focus of the Florida Disabled Outdoors Association (FDOA), which sponsors SportsAbility events in different parts of the state each year. |

 Work is the Seed to Success | |
| Employment is more than a paycheck for many of us. A job allows us an opportunity to socialize, learn new skills, and gain confidence with our abilities. Frank McKiernan, a courtesy clerk with Publix in Pensacola, is a wonderful example of how a job can be a catalyst that allows a person to bloom. |

 Pinwheels for Prevention | |
| April was Child Abuse Prevention month, and APD employees were busy supporting the Ounce of Prevention Fund’s Pinwheels for Prevention campaign in Florida. APD has zero tolerance for the abuse, so it supports this effort to raise public awareness. |

 Panhandle Community Offering Respite | |
| Hope that HEALS (Helping Exceptional Adults Live Successfully) is a non-profit organization working to build an adult day center for special abilities adults in South Santa Rosa County. They want to help young adults who have aged out of the exceptional student education school system and their programs at age 22, and adults of all ages with various special needs who need socialization, activities, educational training, continued life skills, and volunteer and job opportunities. |

 Sunland Art in Park Coming Up | |
| Creativity is something that lives in everyone and the residents of Sunland Center can attest to that. Several residents of Sunland recently spent the day at This, That and the Other Studio participating in a project that will be displayed at Sunland’s upcoming Art in the Park show. |

 Brain Symposium | |
| The mission of the Center for Brain Repair at Florida State University is to promote research, discovery, education, and community outreach in neuroscience and mental health. The Symposium of the Developing Mind held in Tallahassee on April 8 is the very first symposium held by the Center for Brain Repair and discussed the treatment and diagnosis of brain disorders, as well as the awareness of Brain Disorders and mechanisms of the brain. |

 Children at Work | |
| Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day was celebrated on April 28 in Tallahassee at the Florida Capitol’s 22nd floor. The top floor of the Capitol building was abuzz with hundreds of children who visited state agency informational tables. |
