Panhandle Community Offering Respite

Hope that HEALS (Helping Exceptional Adults Live Successfully) is a non-profit organization working to build an adult day center for special abilities adults in South Santa Rosa County.  They want to help young adults who have aged out of the exceptional student education school system and their programs at age 22, and adults of all ages with various special needs who need socialization, activities, educational training, continued life skills, and volunteer and job opportunities.  If you are interested in learning more about the mission and goals to open an adult day center, contact Hopethatheals.ada.@gmail.com.

The Community Life United Methodist Church (CLUMC) in Gulf Breeze has generously offered space for two programs providing a Thursday Respite Program and Caregiver’s Night Out events.  Several local churches are partnering with HOPE THAT HEALS to bring awareness and services to the community.  The programs are free and occur every Thursday for the Respite, the Caregiver’s Night Out events are planned as quarterly events.

The respite program began on April 7 and is averaging 7-10 people.  So far they have had two Caregiver’s Night Outs.  On April 15, was a dance and there were 19 participants attending and there were three times that in volunteers.  Some parents and caregivers change their minds about leaving to join in fun activities!  The conga line was the kick off song and the fun never stopped!

Hope that HEALs volunteers are required to fill out a volunteer form and agree to have background checks done before volunteering for the program.  Caregiver’s are welcome to stay, or just take some quiet time.
