State Agencies Partner to Recruit Foster Parents for Children with Disabilities

APD has launched a new initiative to find more individuals to become foster parents for children with developmental and intellectual disabilities currently in the care of the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Spring was certainly in the air at Sunland Center as they celebrated their 3rd Annual ‘Art in the Park’ show at the beautiful Environmental Park on May 6.

Garden Grows New Opportunities


In October 2016, brothers Jeff and Jon Shell started a produce business in downtown Pensacola called Jeff’s Corner Garden, which is located inside the northwest portion of a larger urban garden named From the Ground Up.

In an effort to inform those on the APD waiver and waiting list, caregivers, and service providers about co-occurring medical conditions that commonly affect individuals with developmental disabilities, the community-based Supports and Education Workgroup, part of the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council Waitlist Strategic Plan Implementation Task Force, would like to share and encourage subscription to the Florida Office on Disability and Health’s “Access for All” monthly e-newsletter.

Empower Florida


APD Director Barbara Palmer will be a keynote speaker at the Empower Florida conference in Miami June 9-10. The conference will be held at the Miami Airport Convention Center, located at 777 N.W. 72nd Avenue.
