Sunland’s 3rd Annual Art in the Park Show

Spring was certainly in the air at Sunland Center as they celebrated their 3rd Annual Art in the Park show at the beautiful Environmental Park on May 6. Sunland residents and local artists submitted artwork to be displayed, which provided the perfect background for a cool, sunny spring morning. Original works of art featured various media, including painting, photography, sculpture, wood, and fiber. The sound of live music filled the air, adding a charming ambiance for art lovers mingling through the displayed artwork. Students from the Sunland Culinary Arts program served brunch to contributing artists at the Artists Reception, which was held prior to the show. The event also provided children’s art activities and live demonstrations. As guests browsed the exhibits, they were afforded opportunities to cast their vote in the People’s Choice Awards. Congratulations to the following artists who won awards: Maria Johnson and Bob Gamble, Best of Show; 1st Place, Carol Williams; and 2nd Place, Jonathan Comas and Bob Gamble.

Event organizers were especially pleased at the variety and quality of artwork on display and the large crowd, which gathered to celebrate the artists and their creations. “We are so grateful to the community for visiting Art in the Park and supporting the work of our residents and artists from our local and surrounding communities. We especially appreciate the Friends of Sunland, Inc., Artists Guild of Northwest Florida along with Tori Willis, owner of “This, That & the Other,” and craft demonstrators Beverly Basford and Elijah Conrad, and so many others for giving of their time and talent to support this event,” stated Event Chair Maria Johnson. Art in the Park is held on the first Saturday of May at the Sunland Environmental Park. Make plans to attend next year’s show, which promises to be a delight!
