Angels in Disguise

By Maria Angeles Linares

Yes, it’s true—angels do walk among us. We may not be aware of them since they don’t sport wings or halos and are not always dressed in white, but they are always there for our customers. I am talking about our registered nurses. In the case of the Southern Region, those angels are Brenda Viera, RN and Regional Program Supervisor for Medical Case Management, and her team of angels, Ernesto Delgado, ARNP, Daymara Ahmed, RN, and Maday Suarez, RN.

Our nurses perform health and safety checks, prepare SANS to support the Waiver Unit with SAN Reviews, conduct ICF Continued State Reviews, ICF Admissions and Re-Admissions, monitor group homes, and provide technical assistance. In addition to all that, our angels are active members of the Residential Committee, Crisis Committee, and CMAT Committee. These wellness warriors are always in the front line making sure that our consumers are well taken care of.

This year, National Nurses Week ran May 6-12, 2017. On May 9, the Southern Region recognized the wonderful work our nurses do every day for our consumers. In addition, we took the opportunity to recognize and celebrate Ernesto Delgado’s hard work in attaining his Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner degree (ARNP). Nursing is not just a job, but a calling, and our nurses exemplify this every day with the care and compassion they show our consumers.
