The Florida Legislative Session is just a few weeks underway and much is happening at the Capitol. It is a very exciting time for the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). 


Work Begins on New APD Software System


The Agency for Persons with Disabilities has contracted with Mediware to develop a new central client data system for APD customers. Beginning in January, small groups of APD employees began Solution Mapping Sessions (SMS) which will continue throughout the spring.

Transportation Disadvantaged Day


Even with some rainy weather, the Florida Association of Coordinated Transportation Systems (FACTS) hosted Transportation Disadvantaged Day (TD Day) at the Capitol on January 21.

Children's Day 2016


APD Communications Coordinator Lindsey Boyington and Communications Director Melanie Mowry Etters hosted an information table at the Capitol for Children’s Day on January 26.

Senior Day


On January 27, APD Communications staff Lindsey Boyington, Kimberly Tharpe, and Melanie Mowry Etters hosted an exhibit table at the Senior Day event held in the Capitol Courtyard.

Attention to Detail


Klaressa Williams, 23, describes herself as a shy girl.  She enjoyed school, and graduated from East Gadsden High in 2011.  She spends her free time cooking, cleaning, and working on her computer, but that doesn’t mean she is happy doing just that.

Holidays Miami Style


T ’was some weeks before Christmas and all throughout the Southern Region office the holiday cheer was very much drawing near.  As we planned and pondered what we would do, the staff said the holiday season cannot end without us giving back to the consumers too.

Fun in the Sun


It was a glorious fall morning when Oscar Garcia and Rosario Noa, from Garcia Group Home embarked on a fun filled outing.  The residents of Garcia Group Home had been invited to attend a football game at Ocean Bank Field, on the Florida International University campus.

Mastermind Pensacola


Katrina Washington and Annette Zeeb with the Northwest Regional Office of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities attended the January 8 meeting of Mastermind Pensacola at the Pensacola International Airport.

Southeast Region Celebrates the Holidays


For over 10 years, William (Bill) Shea has been procuring donations of toys for our group homes and Gift Cards for some individuals of limited income who reside in supported living.
