Senior Day

On January 27, APD Communications staff Lindsey Boyington, Kimberly Tharpe, and Melanie Mowry Etters hosted an exhibit table at the Senior Day event held in the Capitol Courtyard. Seniors arrived on buses from all over the state to speak with legislators about important senior issues and initiatives. The team spoke with many seniors about APD services. Many thought the agency only served young children, and were surprised to learn that most APD customers are not children. Several individuals stopped by the table to inquire not about themselves, but a loved one with a developmental disability.

APD Director Barbara Palmer participated in the Senior Town Hall. She served on a panel with fellow state agency heads Samuel Verghese of the Department of Elder Affairs, Mike Carroll with the Department of Children and Families, Surgeon General Dr. John Armstrong, and Randall Hunt, President and CEO of Senior Resource Alliance. The panel answered questions regarding their agency and the various roles it plays in senior issues. About 200 Florida seniors attended the town hall.
