Holidays Miami Style

By Hillary Jackson, RPS

T ’was some weeks before Christmas and all throughout our Southern Region office the holiday cheer was very much drawing near.  As we planned and pondered what we would do, the staff said the holiday season cannot end without us giving back to the customers too.  Immediately an idea was born as to what our APD family could do.  A gift basket to make a holiday meal will be perfect!  Let’s make one.  No someone blurted out, let’s make at least two!  The staff and I put out the call for the Southern Region APD family to come one, come all.  Without fail the call was answered to donate canned/boxed good items.  Items such as soup, vegetables, mashed potatoes, pasta, desserts and other goodies was collected.  A grocery store gift card was tucked away in the greeting card handed out.

Before we knew it, we had enough items to make four complete food gift baskets to raffle away to unsuspecting APD recipients.  We packaged and wrapped the baskets with warm hearts knowing that this will brighten someone’s day.  The raffle was held at the Southern Region December provider meeting.  Audience members pulled random numbers and the winners were announced.  As luck would have it, one support coordinator had two winners drawn.  She was thrilled for both of her winners since they would really benefit from the gift baskets.  We also had a winner in the Monroe County area who was very happy to receive his gift basket.  What good cheer felt by all.

Special thanks go to the Southern Region Team, especially to the Waiver Team - Kamicha Ferguson, Hillary Jackson, Nelly Perry, Martine Saint-Aime and Roland Vializ.
