I hope you and your family enjoyed a fabulous Thanksgiving with all the trimmings of turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie. I love this time of year, but cannot believe it is already here. 


The Florida First Budget Will Make Florida First for Supporting Persons with Disabilities by Eliminating the Critical Needs Waiting List for the Third Year in a Row


Governor Rick Scott is recommending $1.2 billion in total funding for APD. This historic investment will eliminate the critical needs waiting list for the third year in a row, and help Floridians with disabilities live, learn and work in their communities.

APD Offers Waiver Enrollment to 2,499 Individuals


The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) is offering Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Medicaid waiver enrollment to 2,499 individuals on the waiver waiting list. Everyone on the waiting list with critical needs as of November 1, plus students transitioning out of school received a waiver enrollment offer letter.

Early Bird


Dustin Turpin’s alarm clock rings at 3 a.m. each work day so he has time to get to work to prepare the produce department at the Ocala Publix Supermarket on Maricamp Road for grocery shoppers. This early bird helps unload produce from the delivery truck every morning.

37th Annual Fall Festival


Sunland Center celebrated its 37th Annual Fall Festival Saturday, October 31, and enjoyed a record crowd.

Sunland Takes Part in State Fall Classic


The Special Olympics Jackson County program traveled to Kissimmee recently to take part in the Special Olympics Florida State Fall Classic. The Jackson County program, which includes Sunland, took part in the softball and bowling competitions.

Football in Miami


October 24 was a beautiful South Florida fall day.  It was breezy and the sun was shining.  There was excitement in the air.  The University of Miami Hurricanes were playing the Clemson Tigers. 

Family Care Council and APD Out and About


On October 3, 211-Broward held their 37th Annual Disability Expo at Nova Southeastern University. Southeast Region APD staff and Field Office 10 Family Care Council members participated as Expo exhibitors. Families came out in full force to gather information about services from more than 75 exhibitors.


Live an Unconfined Life


Christopher Coleman was the keynote speaker at the “People, Purpose & Passion” ADA 25 event sponsored by the University of West Florida Office of Equity, Diversity, & International Affairs on October 29, on the Pensacola campus.

Philippines Outreach


On October 20, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) in collaboration with Leslie Smith from the Sumter County Government met with visitors to their municipality from the nations of Brunei and the Philippines.
