Teeters puts his personality to work at Hardee's
By Melanie Mowry Etters
NEWBERRY — David Teeters is quite a character.
His life has had many twists and turns, and he has interesting stories to tell about all of it. He is proud of the fact that he has worked at Hardee's Restaurant in Newberry for more than 16 years.
Teeters has developmental disabilities and receives services from Florida's Agency for Persons with Disabilities. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and the agency is highlighting the contributions of people with disabilities to the workforce.
"David is always on time," said Bridget Kallmeyer, Teeters' boss. "He is respectful. He does whatever you ask. He has a very good personality — outgoing and kind. David sometimes acts as a greeter when customers come in."
His duties include taking items that are brought in from the delivery truck and putting them in their proper places and general maintenance. His other duties include cleaning and ensuring the parking lot is litter-free and the building is spotless.
When asked why he likes working at Hardee's, Teeters said, "The answer is simple. I like the people because they are good and nice to me. They try to help me when I need it."
When not at work, Teeters likes to play with his Nintendo DSi game, watch movies and cheer for the Gators when they are competing in college sports.
APD supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn and work in their communities. The agency annually serves more than 50,000 Floridians with autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
