Empowering All Event for Students with Disabilities

TALLAHASSEE, FL—The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) and the Adult & Community Education Transition Program (ACE) are hosting a job fair-themed America’s Workforce: Empowering All on November 9 at ACE, located at 526 Appleyard Drive, Tallahassee, FL. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. and wraps up at 1 p.m.

The mission is to emphasize the importance of ensuring all Americans including those with disabilities, can put their skills and talents to work. It is an opportunity for our region job creators to enhance their commitment to a workplace that ensures America’s workforce empowers all. 

Local businesses will provide an orientation about their companies and provide interactive work skills for the youths ages 16-22. The students will participate in industry-related job tasks, obtain soft skill training, as well as have an opportunity to participate in mock interviews. Each student will select three employers to visit. They will rotate to a different employer every 30 minutes. Approximately 100 students will participate and will be supported by mentors, teachers, and other administration.

APD Supervisor Octavius Jackson said, “We are emphatically thrilled about partnering with schools, local businesses, and community organizations to expose students to post-secondary education, training, and employment opportunities. We are honored to have employers who are equal opportunity employers willing to level the playing field to ensure that we have an inclusive community for individuals of all abilities.” 

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, and work in their communities.
