Tallahassee APD Office to Host Disability Mentoring Day

TALLAHASSEE, FL— The Agency for Persons with Disabilities will host six job seekers on Friday, October 21, as part of Disability Mentoring Day (DMD). APD employees in the Area Office in Tallahassee are coordinating activities for DMD participants.

The APD Tallahassee office, located at 2639 North Monroe Street, Cedars Suite B-100, will host the individuals with disabilities. In addition to job shadowing in the morning, the mentees will take a tour of ITT Technical Institute to learn about additional educational opportunities.

The students will be job shadowing from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the following locations:

  • Esposito’s
  • Ablaze Hair Studio
  • Tallahassee Memorial Pediatric Outpatient Clinic
  • Area Agency on Aging
  • Envision Credit Union
  • Community Intervention Center

Work Force Plus will conduct workshops following the ITT tour and presentation. The workshops will be on resume building and interviewing techniques.

APD Director Hansen said, “DMD is a great opportunity for individuals to explore possible careers. By job shadowing someone in the job they want to pursue, it may convince them that it is the right field for them or they may decide to go in a different direction.”

DMD is an opportunity for students and job seekers with disabilities to participate in a one-on-one job shadowing experience. This is the 11th anniversary of DMD in Florida.

APD annually serves more than 50,000 Floridians with developmental disabilities of autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, spina bifida, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
