Hire someone with a disability
Recently, the Florida Cabinet declared October as Disability Employment Awareness Month. Applebee's Restaurant employee Elizabeth Haines addressed the Cabinet on the importance of including people with disabilities in the workforce.
In celebration of Disability Employment Awareness Month, the state will recognize several businesses as Exceptional Employers of the Year at a ceremony in Tallahassee on October 9. Exceptional employers are businesses from around the state that are committed to hiring and retaining employees with disabilities. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Vocational Rehabilitation, and Blind Services will present the awards. The City of Tallahassee and Able Trust are helping to sponsor the event.
The event will be held at the Tallahassee City Commission Chambers, 300 South Adams Street. Information displays will be in the Second Floor Mezzanine beginning at 8:30 a.m. The employer recognition will begin at 9:30 a.m. Some of the organizations participating are the Florida Disabled Outdoors Association, Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology, Governor’s Commission on Jobs for Floridians with Disabilities, and Department of Economic Opportunity.
