Job-A-Palooza Bay County
By Nicole MillerAPD employees from the Northwest Region and representatives from various local businesses came together for Job-A-Palooza, a supported employment event hosted by the Arc of the Bay. Attendees included employees from TJ Maxx, Roussos Air Conditioning, the Lynn Haven Fire Department, Planet Fitness, Publix, People’s First Bank, Pizza Hut, Jimmy Johns, and Hampton Inn, among others.
The event was an opportunity for students with disabilities to learn about what it takes to enter the job market. Students and mentors from Bay and Gulf counties filled the Gulf Coast State College Student Union in Panama City. Employers taught students what it takes to work at their respective businesses.
Northwest Region staff members Akeyria Edwards, Jessica Knight, and Nicole Miller spoke with students who were interested in working in an office setting.
Students were eager to take part and learn. They finished the day by participating in a friendly competition to test what they had learned.
