Law Enforcement Torch Run

Police cars and motorcycles escorted more than 100 runners to the Capitol courtyard on April 23 in Tallahassee for the 39th Annual Special Olympics Florida Law Enforcement Torch Run. The participants were either law enforcement officers who support Special Olympics or Special Olympic athletes.

Special Olympics supporter Attorney General Ashley Moody emceed the ceremony. Publix and Proctor & Gamble made a check presentation of more than $3 million on the steps of the Historic Capitol to Special Olympics. APD Director Barbara Palmer joined the dignitaries on the Historic Capitol steps for the ceremony.

Governor Ron DeSantis presented a proclamation declaring the day Special Olympics Florida Law Enforcement Torch Run Day in Tallahassee. Special Olympics athlete Kami Downey shared the benefits of competing in the games. She has been an athlete in multiple sports for 21 years.

The runners carried the Flame of Hope into the courtyard for the ceremony on its way to Orlando for the Special Olympic State Games on May 17 and 18, which will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
