Third Sip, Share, and Socialize Event Held

By Dina Justice

Family Care Council Area 1 held their third Sip, Share, and Socialize Event on April 9 at Perfect Plain Brewing in downtown Pensacola. There was a great turnout and networking regarding employment and volunteer opportunities with self-advocates. There were three presenters for the evening. The Arc Gateway Employment Services Director Jeffery Weikert talked about their services with community-based employment programs, which connect participants with employment. Check out what The Arc Gateway employment service participants are doing in the community with the help of the Supported Employment Program at https://youtu.be/OxZPiSYuyMk.

Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Manager Krystal Howell discussed their mission and how volunteers help families with administrative services, housekeeping in family common rooms, and maintenance.

The ARC Gateway PALS (Program for Adult Learning and Support) Program Director Dondie Roper and Employment Specialist Kasey Puppolo talked about their two-year post-secondary program that gives students with I/DD the opportunity to go to college, to learn new skills, explore careers, prepare for employment, and ultimately gain more independence. More information on The Arc Gateway PALS program can be found at www.arc-gateway.org/pals/. The deadline to apply for classes starting in August for the Fall 2019 semester is June 30, 2019.
