Connecting the Dots 2019

The Area 4 Family Care Council hosted their fifth annual Connecting the Dots Conference on April 10 at the Schultz Center in Jacksonville with over 350 people in attendance. FCC 4 member Karen Prewitt led the organizing team for the event with assistance from Denise Torres, Mary Smith, and several local agencies and organizations.

Sean McElwee, the actor from the Emmy Award winning A&E television show, “Born This Way” was the event’s keynote speaker with his presentation, It Could Happen! His mother, Sandra McElwee, did a breakout session on Transforming a School into an Inclusive School. Those in attendance chose from a selection of 12 educational breakout topics presented throughout the day.

More than 50 area organizations hosted informational booths for participants to learn about disability issues and programs in the Jacksonville area. Three Micro Enterprises from Alden Road Exceptional Student Center, North Florida School of Special Education, and Palm Avenue Exceptional Student Center were also present to showcase their products. Event volunteers were from Bank of America, The Arc of Jacksonville, and North Florida School of Special Education.
