First Lady and Governor DeSantis Attend Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

On April 25, First Lady Casey DeSantis and Governor Ron DeSantis, along with their children Madison and Mason, welcomed more than 500 children, parents, and mentors to the Florida Capitol during Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Children joined their parents to tour more than a dozen exhibits from a wide variety of organizations, while participating in interactive, hands-on activities and learning about the many career opportunities available to them in the Sunshine State. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) employees and their youngsters participated in the Capitol event.

“As Chair of the Children and Youth Cabinet, I am excited to join state leaders, students and parents to celebrate the different career paths available to our children,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “We are blessed to live in a state where there are many options to receive a high-quality education. The Governor and I are working hard to ensure these kids and children across the state can attend the schools and explore career opportunities that are the best fit for them. I look forward to watching these young leaders develop their interests and establish our future workforce for our state.”

Throughout the day, attendees participated in interactive exhibits from educational institutions, organizations, and state agencies, that highlighted the importance of education and growing employment fields in the state. Featured exhibitors included APD, Tallahassee Police Department, CareerSource Florida, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, WTXL-ABC 27, and the Florida Department of Agriculture.

“Governor and First Lady DeSantis are committed to ensuring that children throughout our state have the opportunity to learn and explore a variety of possible career paths," said Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) Executive Director Ken Lawson. “Our agency enjoys organizing this annual event to educate children in our area about the diverse and rewarding career opportunities the state of Florida offers.”

DEO hosts a career exploration event on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day each year at the Florida Capitol. Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a nationwide initiative of the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation, dedicated to developing innovative strategies and research-based activities in informal educational programs that empower girls and boys in all sectors of society.

“As mentors and leaders, we have a wonderful opportunity and a responsibility to help spark our children's curiosity and offer resources they can use to identify their career choices and achieve their goals,” said President and CEO of CareerSource Florida Michelle Dennard. “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day provides Florida’s future workforce a fun way to explore careers while showcasing the importance of education and training to prepare for great jobs and a bright future.”
