Pensacola Wheelchair Ramp Pilot Program

After receiving a ramp build referral from the APD office in Pensacola, the Pensacola Civitan Club completed Wheelchair Ramp Project #476 last month at the home of Kendrick Larry. Kendrick’s family relocated to Pensacola after losing their home to Hurricane Michael in Panama City. Civitans and guests built a 5x5-foot deck and a 35-foot ramp for Kendrick’s 10-year-old daughter Liyah, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. Liyah is in her first year at Escambia Westgate School, which provides individualized programs of educational excellence in a safe learning environment while exposing students to various modern technologies and effective instructional techniques.

The lumber for this large project was cut on Friday. Friday’s crew: Mike Barrington, Anthony Darnes, Annette Knodel, and Steven, a counselor with AMIkids. Work continued at 8:30 on Saturday with the following crew: Mike and Cindy Barrington, Anthony Darnes, Cheryl Edwards, Charles Knight, Jack Peterson, and Steven and Corie from AMIkids.
