Hurricane Exercise
On July 24, the APD Emergency Operations Command Staff, consisting of Karen Hagan, Eddie Kay Harris, Beth Mann Pace, and Doug Roberts, conducted an annual hurricane exercise to ensure everyone is prepared if disaster strikes. The mythical disaster was named “Hurricane Rankin” in honor of retiring Deputy Director of Operations Tom Rankin. State Office employees acted in their Emergency Operations roles and included the Executive Management Team to accomplish the following objectives:
- Review APD’s Concept of Operations and Principles of Practice during a Hurricane event based on the Agency’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP)
- Assess APD’s capability to coordinate our internal response strategy
- Practice communication approaches between APD’s State Office, regions, facilities, and the State Emergency Response Team
Emergency Operations Leadership simulated a real Emergency Operations call with the Regional Operations Managers, Superintendents, and team members to discuss the storm, battle rhythm, communications, logistics, and field reporting.
