A Decade and a Half of Doing

Twice a week for the past 15 years, Pelayo Vigil takes public transportation to his job at Ocean Drive Magazine in Miami. Vigil works as an office assistant. His regular duties include collecting and delivering the mail, keeping up the with inventory of supplies for the kitchen and office, making copies, and various administrative work.

Ocean Drive Events Marketing Manager Dara Hirsh said, “Pelayo is outgoing, friendly, and very social. He gets along with everyone. When someone new is hired, he makes sure to connect with them right away. He is a positive person overall.”

Vigil shows initiative by beginning his work as soon as he arrives at the office, even if he is early for his shift. He takes his job seriously and is responsible about completing his duties.

“I am a hard worker. I like to work because I like the people that I work with—they are really cool,” said Vigil. Also, having income is important to Vigil. “I like having a job because of my paycheck. I save it. In the long term, I want to have lots of money.”

Vigil has a developmental disability and receives services from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).

When not earning a living, Vigil likes to watch WWE wrestling and hang out with friends. A favorite stomping ground is Wing House and they also like to listen to music together.
