Magical in Every Way

The Tim Tebow Foundation Night to Shine Prom was a night that was magical in every way. Hosted by Genesis Church at The Pavilion at the Centre Of Tallahassee on February 9, 2018, Night to Shine gave APD consumers and Waiver Support Coordinators a chance to get together and have a great time partying with friends. Valerie Jones, an Agency for Persons with Disabilities Medicaid Waiver Support Coordinator, attended Night to Shine with her buddy Kameasha Moore and had the time of her life! She describes her night:

“Wow! Starting with walking...well, strutting down the red carpet. Kameasha was my date, and she was so excited. She looked beautiful, and she already knew that. But to have seemingly 1,000 people telling her how beautiful she was as she strutted down was enchanting to say the least. By the time she got to the end of the carpet, her breathing had changed, and I thought she was going to have to take out her inhaler, but she assured me she was fine. Kameasha loves people and loves to dance and dance she did! Finally, the shoes came off, but the dancing continued. I asked Kameasha what her favorite part of Night to Shine was, and she said the limousine ride was the thing she liked the most.

“This was my first year attending Night to Shine, but I hope to go every year. Several of the consumers I serve participated this year, and it was so awesome and so nice to see everyone look so beautiful and have such a great time.”

Shannon Roberts, an APD customer and employee in the State Office, and her date, Daniel Lewis, had a blast together as well. After a day of pampering, getting her hair done, and riding in a limousine around the parking lot, Shannon joined Daniel to walk the red carpet before they got their corsage and boutonniere and their buddies for the night. Everyone danced the night away and sang karaoke. Shannon belted out “Pocket Full of Sunshine,” while Daniel crooned “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” to a cheering crowd. They can’t wait for next year’s prom!

Stephanie Sanders, an Agency for Persons with Disabilities Waiver Support Coordinator, also attended Night to Shine with her buddy, King Adelokunbo. Stephanie also had a night to remember, stating, “Wow! What a great night! It was an amazing experience as a buddy seeing everyone enjoying themselves from the walk on the red carpet to the limousine ride, great food, karaoke, and the DJ playing music that packed the dance floor. Night to Shine had the vibe of a real prom, with everyone cheering the attendees when they hit the red carpet to the applauding near the end when everyone was crowned. My buddy King Adelokunbo “Kenny” Kumuyi and I had a great time!”
