Tacachale Goes Green and Blue

On April 19, Tacachale celebrated Earth Day and recognized autism awareness by sporting matching blue T-shirts with a special Earth Day design. 35 staff members and 47 residents joined volunteers from the University of Florida to engage in this worldwide event and learn about environmental issues. Small groups discussed the importance of taking care of the planet before beginning some Earth Day activities.

Participants used earth-toned, non-toxic paints to decorate flower pots made from recycled materials. Coloring pictures of flowers and the planet kept everyone busy while the paint was drying. After carefully filling their uniquely decorated pots with soil, they planted flowers, bulbs, and seeds and gently watered them. Their eyes sparkled with pride in their creations as they took them home to continue to care for their flowers and watch them grow.
