This is Only a Drill
Fortunately, it was only a drill for the Southern Region as Joel Hernandez and Rosa Llaguno received important annual training from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Miami-Dade County on May 2. As members of Command Post, they are required to receive training from the local EOC and online through FEMA on how to respond to any emergency, natural or man-made, that may affect them.
The day’s exercise was “Hurricane Coleman,” a Category 4 hurricane bearing down on South Florida that is expected to make landfall in the middle of the night. As the newest member to Command Post, Joel Hernandez was introduced to the EOC and the inner workings of APD’s desk there. Working together, Joel and Rosa prepared the necessary reports for encountered situations during “Hurricane Coleman” while meeting and working with community partners.
