Tacachale Celebrates its Champions

The Tacachale community came together in June to celebrate the stellar achievements of their athletes, including Special Olympics competitors who have competed over the past year, and to thank them for representing Tacachale so well. Prior to the main event, a musical slideshow presentation delighted the crowd with images of the athletes along their journeys.

Center Administrator Michael Mayfield presented a special trophy to the Tacachale Bombers basketball team to recognize their achievement of winning the gold medal in team skills for the second year in a row. Deputy Center Administrator Julie Waldman presented a plaque to the athletes who competed in golf, bowling, and in the summer games, listing the name of each competitor next to his or her sport.

After announcing the name of each athlete, Master of Ceremonies Charlie Chatman sang a tribute he composed to the theme from Gilligan’s Island:

Now sit back and relax while I tell you a story before it gets too old
Of how the Olympic Games ended when Taca brought home the gold!
When Taca brought home the gold!

The games got started very fast, and when it all had cleared,
the crowd was singing John Cena’s chant
“The champs are here (say what?)
The champs are here (that’s right)!”

So now you know the story and all about the trip.
Stand and cheer how Taca returned with all these championships!
