Volusia County Project SEARCH Graduations

Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach recently hosted the graduation for eight students from the 2018 class of Project SEARCH of Volusia County. This is the second year the program has operated from within the medical center’s premises.

Project SEARCH is a program that began in Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital about 22 years ago. It began as a partnership between a supported employment agency, the hospital, and the local school district as an employability skills training and internship program.

Of the eight students graduating from the Halifax Medical Center site, six had found employment as of the day they graduated. The other two have interviewed for employment positions and are very optimistic they will be employed. Several students from the 2017 Project SEARCH class are currently working within the hospital, earning a good wage and receiving health benefits.

Stetson University became the host business site in the fall of 2017 for Volusia County’s Project SEARCH in DeLand. On May 25, 12 students graduated from the Lynn Business Center on Stetson University’s campus. Eight of the 12 have found employment; four of those eight recently hired were successful in finding employment on the same day.

Project SEARCH is definitely working for Volusia County.
