Northwest Region Participates in Transition Services Information Fair

By Annette Zeeb

The APD Northwest Region partnered with the Escambia County School District Exceptional Student Education Department to recruit employers to provide mock interviews for students attending the Transition Services Information Fair held on March 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church in Pensacola.

Besides the mock interviews, the students participated in employment-related workshops along with receiving information at the community services vendor fair. The event was part of the Northwest Region’s Employment Enhancement Program (EEP) candidate recruitment strategy. Individuals on the APD waiting list interested in employment can call Annette Zeeb at 850-595-8351 for more information.

APD Northwest Region Supported Employment Liaison Willie Dawkins-Miller and APD Operations Review Specialist Katrina Washington discussed employment with the students who participated in the mock interviews. APD Northwest Region Community Relations Liaison Annette Zeeb and APD Northwest Region Secretary Specialist Alicia Harper-Morris shared community resource information such as EEP funding with the students, parents, employers, and teaching staff.

The Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System (FDLRS) Emerald Coast provided workshops for parents. Project Empower of Northwest Florida, Inc., hosted its Friday Respite for caregivers. Northwest Regional Program Supervisor Octavius Jackson toured the Friday Respite Program and the Empowerment Parent Resource Center (EPRC). Respite is offered every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church located at 6205 North W Street, Pensacola. Families can reserve a spot for the Saturday respite by calling Destry LeBrun at 850-375-4790.
