Torch Run

Dozens of police motorcycles escorted hundreds of runners to the Capitol courtyard on April 13 in Tallahassee for the annual Special Olympics Florida Law Enforcement Torch Run. The runners were law enforcement officers who support Special Olympics. Florida Department of Law Enforcement Director Rick Swearingen carried the Flame of Hope into the courtyard for the ceremony on its way to Orlando for the Special Olympic State Games on May 19 and 20, which will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Special Olympics supporter Attorney General Pam Bondi emceed the ceremony. Publix and Proctor and Gamble made a check presentation of over $3.8 million on the steps of the Old Capitol to Special Olympics.
