Disability Conferences Coming Up

By Director Barbara Palmer

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities will have a huge presence at the 19th Annual Family Café and Governor’s Summit on Disabilities coming up June 16-18 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Orlando. APD will have speakers at 17 different presentations throughout the three-day conference. This year for the first time, APD will be granting in-service training credits for waiver support coordinators and providers who attend certain sessions including the following:

The Family Café offers people with disabilities and their families a welcoming environment to educate themselves about organizations and resources that are available in Florida. Families and organizations must work together to find solutions to meet the diversity of needs that each individual faces. APD has an online Resource Directory at APDcares.org which may offer community solutions when government resources are not available. We welcome you to come by the APD booth while attending the conference. Please visit www.familycafe.net to register.

There is another conference coming up June 9-10 in Miami for APD providers called Empower Florida. APD will be offering in-service training credits at this conference too. I will be a keynote speaker. If you live in South Florida, I hope you will plan to attend. The conference will be held at the Miami Airport Convention Center, 777 N.W. 72nd Avenue. As you can see, these are two great opportunities to learn more about APD and its services to people with developmental disabilities. The more we know, the better we can help those in need. I hope to see you at one of these events.
