Holiday Community Outreach in the Northeast Region

By Belinda Hoyt

The congregation of Westminster by the Sea Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach Shores brought joy and hope to many individuals during the holiday season. Friends of Francis, their community outreach program organized by Tobias Caskey, gathers gifts for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) in Daytona Beach assists the church congregation to distribute the gifts (toys, clothing, household items, gift cards, etc.) through Support Coordinators of the individuals they serve in the Northeast Region. Each year, the need at Christmastime seems to grow, but, amazingly, Friends of Francis is able to meet this need.

Their kindness provided gifts to over 100 individuals this year, making their Christmas much brighter. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and excitement as each gift was given. Every face was filled will pure joy and priceless expressions.

An abundance of household and clothing gifts helped those who live independently. Some of the recipients may not have family to help support them in becoming as independent as possible.

The continued outreach to support APD and those we support has been tremendous. Words cannot express our gratitude for the kindness, time, and effort which truly enriched the lives of many. Hopefully, the spirit of giving to those in need during the holidays will continue to grow, spreading goodwill to those in other areas.
