Family Centered Care Options Meeting

On January 20, self-advocates, families, and providers gathered together in Orlando for an opportunity to speak with the leaders from the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

The Family Care Council Florida hosted the Family Centered Care Options meeting to discuss the coordination of supports for children with developmental disabilities living with natural or foster families. During the meeting, attendees shared the difficulties in finding nursing providers, the disparity in provider rates, the need for parent and family trainings, and much more through a panel discussion with AHCA Secretary Justin Senior, DCF Secretary Mike Carroll, APD Chief of Staff Karen Hagan, and APD Deputy Director of Programs Denise Arnold.

“It was a great meeting,” said Mary Smith, Chairperson of Family Care Council Florida. “We are excited to have communication with the top three agencies serving our loved ones and look forward to working together to bring quality services to all Floridians with developmental disabilities.”
