Family Care Council Florida Meeting

Several APD staff members joined the Family Care Council Florida (FCCF) for their bimonthly meeting in Orlando on November 18. Director Palmer, Chief of Staff Karen Hagan, Deputy Director of Operations Tom Rankin, Legislative Affairs Director Caleb Hawkes, Communications Director Melanie Mowry Etters, and Deputy Communications Director Katie Strickland attended and presented about various topics.

Director Palmer thanked the FCCF members for their commitment to education and advocacy on behalf of the citizens of Florida with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Chief of Staff Karen Hagan reviewed APD’s response to the hurricanes that have impacted our state and proactive steps the agency is taking to continue to prepare for any future natural disasters. Deputy Director of Operations Tom Rankin discussed how APD recently resolved two community issues. Legislative Affairs Director Caleb Hawkes presented APD’s legislative priorities, both policy and budget, as well as how FCCs can best approach their activism with members of the Florida Legislature. Communications Director Melanie Mowry Etters and Deputy Communications Director Katie Strickland discussed plans for future membership recruitment and strategies for improving those efforts.
