Tacachale Bombers’ Road to the Gold!

On March 15, Tacachale’s basketball team, the Taca Bombers, was recognized with a “Road to the Gold” victory celebration in honor of their milestone achievement in winning the Gold Medal for Team Skills in the Florida Special Olympics, North Region competition held earlier this year. Tacachale’s own cheerleading squad welcomed the UF cheerleaders and mascot Alberta and led the boisterous crowd in rousing cheers. The team’s enthusiasm at their accomplishment ignited the audience as team captain Diana D. led her squad, including Patty B., Lyle C., Kevin M., and Henry F., in performing a special exhibition of their basketball moves. As a further accolade to the noteworthy achievement of this remarkable team, Michelle Beumer, Special Olympics Florida’s Alachua County Director, presented them with a trophy and unveiled a special commemorative banner to be permanently displayed in Tacachale’s gym. Congratulations to staff members Thad Merricks and Jeff Williams, whose inspiring coaching maximized the individual potential of each player to meld them into a gold medal team!
