Employment Empowers People

The annual Escambia School District Transition Services Information Fair was held on March 3, at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church in Pensacola. Katie Rice, the Northwest Region Supported Employment Liaison, partnered with the schools in recruiting employers to provide mock interviews for the students. She also participated in interviewing the students as an employer. Each student could interview with three employers. Mike Dwyer and Val Johnson III with Lowe’s Human Resources presented interview and application tips for getting hired to all the students. Katrina Washington, with the APD state office, introduced Rachel Caylor to share her story with the students. Rachel, a Walmart employee for 10 years, shared how being employed has provided her with so many opportunities, including being able to buy a house and getting married. Annette Zeeb, Northwest Region Community Liaison, shared information with all the students, family members, and community members looking for resources.
