Real Florida Magazine Spotlights Rish Park

Real Florida Magazine, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Fla., recently featured a segment dedicated to Rish Park.  Sunland Superintendent Geri Williams, James Godwin, Jennie Ann Dean and Beth Basford, along with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) Tallahassee employees Melanie Etters, JR Harding, and John Milton were on hand for the filming at the park. They also enjoyed participating in the exciting activities taking place during Camp Amigo.

Highlighted in the interviews were Carol Rish, widow of the late Billy Joe Rish, and their son, Jay Rish. The Rish family is proud of the heritage established by Representative Rish, a longtime advocate for accessibility and individuals with disabilities. During his service as a Florida legislator, Rep. Rish was responsible for the development of the 98-acre park located on Cape San Blas in Port St. Joe, Fla. APD applauds the vision of Rep. Rish and his family. We appreciate their dedication and support to advance the opportunities of a unique beach experience for individuals with disabilities.

Interviews with Rish Park Manager Victor Rowland and Rusty Roberts who is the founder and coordinator of Camp Amigo, provided a lot of insight into day-to-day activities and experiences campers enjoy.  Rowland provided a great overview of Rish Park, the amenities the facility offers, and thoughts about future opportunities to improve services.  Roberts, a huge supporter of Rish Park, spoke about the history of Camp Amigo, to include the mission and purpose of the week-long event and the tremendous impact it has on the children who participate in the camp.  Additional interviews took place with Dr. JR Harding, Melanie Etters, and Superintendent Williams.

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities appreciates Real Florida Magazine for their support to increase public awareness of the wonderful barrier-free opportunities Rish Park affords for individuals with disabilities.
