Promoting the skills and abilities of people with disabilities and the employers that hire them is a top priority of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). We are looking for great employers to recognize and need your help. Please submit a nomination at apdcares.org for an Exceptional Employer. The deadline is September 7.

On September 28, Attorney General Pam Bondi plans to introduce a resolution for Governor Scott and the Cabinet to consider declaring the month of October as Disability Employment Awareness Month in Florida. Disability organizations, along with state agencies that serve people with disabilities, will be on hand to accept the resolution. Additionally, APD employee Stacia Woolverton, who has a visual disability, will speak to the Cabinet about the importance of having a job for individuals with disabilities. The Cabinet meeting begins at 9 a.m. and is open to the public.

APD, Blind Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, and other partners will be recognizing outstanding businesses on October 7 with a celebration at Tallahassee City Hall. These exceptional employers will receive an award because their companies demonstrate a commitment to employing individuals with disabilities. There also will be informational displays, refreshments, and speakers talking about the importance of providing opportunities for people with disabilities to go to work. This free public event will be held at the Tallahassee City Commission Chambers, 300 South Adams Street, beginning at 8:30 a.m.  We hope to see you there!
