Mock Job Interviews Help Build Confidence for Future Employees

Twenty-one eager job seekers participated in a mock job interview session held in the Agency for Persons with Disabilities Northeast Region’s Field Office 12 in Daytona Beach on October 14th. The interviewers were members of the Family Care Council 12. Those desiring employment came from a local high school in Volusia County, two Adult Day Training Programs, and several Supported Employment providers.

Those job seekers waiting their turn to be interviewed watched videos on how to dress appropriately; tips for answering employer questions; making a good impression; building confidence; and what makes a good employee.

Notes were taken during each interview by the interviewers; indicating each person’s strengths and weaknesses which are to be shared with those interviewed, as well as teachers, staff, and job coaches.

Last year, 13 individuals participated in Daytona Beach’s first mock job interview session. Plans to hold this event yearly will continue as long as there are interested future job seekers, and participants are able to learn from the experience while gaining from the feedback given.
