Family Care Council 12 Collaborates with Local Self-Advocacy Group

On October 3 and 4, members from the Family Care Council 12 and members of the East Volusia Self-Advocacy Group combined together to attend a community outreach effort at the Port Orange Family Days. The cost of the two-day event was shared by both groups.

A table was set up, and information from both groups was presented to the public. Two of the members of the self-advocacy group are governor-appointed members of Family Care Council 12.

During the event, contact was made with an owner of a Port Orange restaurant, and plans put together to hold a collaborative fundraiser for both groups; sometime in January 2016.

Family Care Council 12’s Facebook page, and flyers passed out in the community by both groups, should be very helpful in drawing citizens and families in the area to the restaurant for dinner. A percentage of all meals served when accompanied by a flyer, will be split between the two groups.

The primary goal of both groups is to be able to share pamphlets and brochures to encourage interest of new members. Family Care Council 12 will utilize their funds raised to help support families interested in attending 2016’s Family Café in Orlando next June.
