Bay County Celebrates Disability Mentoring Day

Students and adults with disabilities from Bay County celebrated National Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) on Disability Mentoring Day (DMD), October 21.   Approximately 80 participants spent the morning job shadowing at a local business of their choice and then attended a luncheon where they shared their experiences.   National sponsors of DEAM/DMD, Publix Supermarkets and Olive Garden, provided the meal.  This is Bay County’s eighth year of participation in this popular event that allows participants to explore possible careers and allows employers to find potential employees.  It’s a win-win!

Businesses hosting mentees this year included:  Beef O’Bradys, Sam’s Club, Sharps Carpet, Walmart, Perry & Young Attorneys, Bay County Sheriff Office, Humane Society, Naju Kennels & Pet Grooming, Bay Schools Maintenance Department, Bill Cramer Chevrolet, Gulf Coast Medical Center, Goodwill, Banfield Pet Hospital, Sonny’s BBQ, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Longhorns Steak House, My Best Friend’s Kitchen, The Print Shop, Panama City Fire Dept., Lynn Haven Police Dept., Publix Supermarket, Winn Dixie Supermarket, Disability Resource Center, Early Education & Care Head Start Center, Zoo World, Planet Fitness and Petsmart.
