Children's Day Brightens the Capital

It was all about the little ones—and really, Florida’s future—when children, advocates, state agencies, and service providers converged on the Capitol for Florida Children’s Day. In addition to the agenda of activities and informative events, it was a celebration of the efforts of teachers and parents in contributing to the welfare of the state’s youngest citizens.

APD Communications Director Melanie Etters hosted APD’s exhibit table in the Capitol Courtyard. She provided information on the services and resources that are available to children with disabilities, from agency services to natural supports that can be accessed via APD’s enhanced Resource Directory.

Activities for young visitors included a “Storybook Land” area. The music of the Rickards High School marching band filled the courtyard. Other events included a press conference and the “Hanging of the Hands” dedication ceremony when the Capitol Courtyard was decorated with colorful hand prints created by Florida children.

Young visitors take everything in.

Super Why high-fives the kids.
